ABOUT BISHOP AND SON HOME APPLIANCE REPAIR, LLC

In September of 2009, Rick Bishop, the father of six, founded Bishop and Son. Although his first four children were girls, the name began with his son, Chris; number five born to the Bishop clan, but the oldest of two of his boys, number six being Kyle Bishop.
when asked why he chose the appliance repair industry to form a business in. Rick recalls growing up in Suburbs of Southern California where his family always had a small farm. “We raised our own livestock and planted a vegetable garden every year”. Coming from a large family himself, six brothers and sisters, Rick learned strong work ethics from a very young age. “If something broke around the place we usually just fixed it”, he explains.
Rick recalls the first time he ever considered appliance repair as a career; “When I was around ten years old I can remember my mom bringing to me the household toaster. Another time it was the Big Ben alarm clock my dad needed to get up for work each day. The kind of items were varied but I remember my mother’s smile and her words.” “I know you can fix this for me, Ricky!”
Rick Bishop was a child with great imagination and wonder for the mechanical workings of many things; including airplanes.
“Once I made a hang glider out of some old plywood laying around the place.” “Then I carried it up to the high side, on the sloped roof of our barn.” He recalls, “The wind was blowing hard on that day,”
“At age eleven and with limited knowledge, I thought the wind conditions were right for flying my craft.” “I stood at the edge of the barn roof, twelve feet above the dirt.” “I faced to the south, holding my flying machine overhead against the Santa Anna winds- This will help give lift, I thought to myself smuggly!” “Then I bravely leaped out, charging into the air.” “The headwind caught my wing, lifting me up then flipping me over.” “
My wing clobbered me a good one then the wind ripped it from my grip.” “There was only one thing left to do; FALL !” “That ground was hard and it hurt!” “I lay there for several minutes, catcthing my wind which had been knocked out of me, then I quickly got up, because I didn’t want my mother to find me like that.” “I would have been in big trouble!”
Having experimental aircraft under his belt at a very young age, Rick’s future experiments would be unmanned- for obvious reasons!
“I always wanted to be a Scientist or an inventor.” “I learned about electronics in school but there was little time and energy for the pursuit of such things in my family.” “There was always too much work to be done.”
Rick continued to follow his dreams. He went on to a Junior College where he study for and passed his exam and was awarded a Third Class Electronics Engineer’s License with a Broadcast Endorsement. “Fancy title,” he explains, “For some basic knowledge and the priviledge granted by the FCC to talk and spin records on a radio station.”
At age seventeen Rick was befriended by a gentleman named Bill Jones. His radio name was Jay West. Jay mentored Rick in his younger days and taught him about audio studio’s and recording. Rick helped build a few professional studio’s and sat in on multiple sessions for two completed record recordings. Rick and Jay were like the Dynamic Duo, as they travelled aroung the Inland Empire of Southern California installing and repairing equipment they had built and designed for the local Disco Tech’s.
Soon all the excitement would end as Rick followed suite with his siblings in working for his dad in the construction industry. The next couple of decades would be dedicated to Finish Carpentry in Housing Construction all over Southern California.
Rick recalls living through two recessions. The second one hit home for him in the early 90’s. This would be a turning point in his career, in his way of thinking and in looking at the world.
Rick has offered his services as a handyman. He has sold and installed solar electric systems in the high desert of California and he was a service technician for fifteen years where he installed and troubleshot satellite tv and other systems for customers in Southern California, Northern California, Arizona and Amarillo, Texas.
Rick Bishop learned to repair all of the major home appliances in 2007. Then in September of 2009 he took the knowledge and went into business. Since then he has received almost all great reviews from his customers. You can tell repairing appliances is a true passion for him when you hear him speak, and his company is his life’s mission for his kids, he says.
As of January 16, 2012 Melody Ann Bishop, Rick’s first born, has joined the team.
Melody is presently working as dispatcher and she will continue to learn the business. Both father and daughter are optimistic that she will take her place as a partner in Bishop and Son.
There is a page on Bishop and Son website that sums up the kind of man Rick Bishop is. The page is entitled our creed. His words speak of integrity, service and honor. Rick has never lost sight of the human element, and that is what he is teaching his kids.
Bishop and Son now has one more Technician in the field. Chris Apodaca is an energetic and conscientious young man. “I’m proud to have him on our team and I will be proud to have him as my Son In law!” Rick says. Chris Apodaca and Melody Bishop are engaged to be married.
